The life of Fife's rugged and beautiful East Neuk has for centuries gone hand in hand with the rich harvests provided by the waters around a truly stunning coastal fringe
Now, with water and beaches among the finest and cleanest in the UK, the area is the home to a busy fleet landing prawns, crabs and lobsters of the very highest quality.
The vital role still played by fishermen, shore-based support businesses and processors, and top class restaurants and other eateries is being marked by a special initiative. Fife Council, working with VisitScotland Fife - and with the support of the national Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) - has organised the "Celebration of East Neuk Seafood".
Over the summer there will be cookery demonstrations, tastings, special promotions, and inclusion of fresh seafood dishes on a host of local menus.
There is also the stunningly situated Ship Inn at Elie, which offers seafood barbecues right through the summer, and one of the country's best fish and chip shops, the Anstruther Fish Bar & Restaurant, which stands right beside the town's busy harbour.
The initiative is also featuring a small selection of award winning restaurants outside the East Neuk, and these include the Peat Inn, Ostler’s Close in Cupar, the Inn at Lathones, and the Seafood Restaurant in St Andrews. These and other hotels, pubs, restaurants and visitor attractions, including the award-winning Scottish Fisheries Museum, will all be reflecting the area's connection with the sea.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to old friends who return to the area year after year, and to visitors who might be exploring this historic and hard working corner of Scotland for the very first time.
